MOM’S SCRUNCHIE

MATERIALS:

  • Standard elastic hair tie
  • Size 5 bulky weight yarn (any color of your choice)
  • A crochet hook that is a compatible size with your yarn choice
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS:

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Attach yarn to the hair tie and secure with a CH.
  • Round 1:
    • Single crochet (SC) around the hair tie 30 times.
    • Join with a slip stitch (Sl St) to the first SC.
  • Round 2:
    • CH 3 (counts as first treble stitch), treble crochet (TR) in the same stitch.
    • Work 2 TR in each stitch around. (You’ll have 60 treble crochets total.)
    • Join with a Sl St to the top of the starting chain.
    • Fasten off and weave in your ends.

  • Tips:
    • Want more ruffle? Add more stitches in Round 1!
    • Great stash-busting project and perfect for matching accessories!

BABY’S HEAD BOW

MATERIALS:

  • Nylon baby/toddler headband
  • Size 5 bulky weight yarn (same or complementary color to scrunchie)
  • A crochet hook that is a compatible size with your yarn choice
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS:

  • Chain (CH)
  • Slip stitch (Sl St)
  • Yarn over slip stitch (YO Sl St)
  • Back loop only (BLO)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • CH 15
  • Row 1:
    • Yarn over slip stitch (YO Sl St) in the 2nd chain from hook, and in each stitch across. (You’ll have 14 stitches.)
    • CH 1 and turn.
  • Row 2:
    • Slip stitch (Sl St) in back loop only (BLO) of each stitch across.
    • CH 1 and turn.
  • Row 3:
    • YO Sl St in BLO of each stitch across.
    • CH 1 and turn.
  • Row 4:
    • Repeat Row 2
  • Row 5:
    • Repeat Row 3
  • Row 6:
    • Repeat Row 2
    • Fasten off and weave in ends.
  • Attach to Nylon Headband:
    • Scrunch the rectangle at the center to form a bow shape.
    • Place it on your nylon headband.
    • Wrap yarn tightly around the center of the bow and headband multiple times.
    • Tie off in the back and weave in ends securely.

  • Optional:
    • For extra flair, add a small embellishment to the bow center (like a tiny button or pearl).
